Delicious Traditional Lasagna
There’s nothing better than a traditional homemade lasagna on a cold winter’s day. This is a pretty easy recipe that anyone can make and is also very delicious. This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained according to package instructions.
- 2 cups Ricotta cheese
- 3 cups meat sauce (recipe below)
- 2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
Meat Sauce Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 3/4 cup red wine
- 3 cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
QUICK TIP: If you do not have time to make the sauce, you can simply use store-bought sauce and mix in with ground beef.
Directions:
- To make the sauce, heat oil in a large skillet and add ground beef. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add onion, garlic, basil, and oregano and continue cooking until meat is browned.
- Add bay leaf, tomatoes, red wine, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375F/190C.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, beaten egg, parsley, and Parmesan cheese.
- Take a 9″x13″ baking dish and spread out 1/2 cup of sauce. Place three lasagna noodles on top.
- Spread 1/2 of the ricotta mixture on the lasagna and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Spread 3/4 cup meat sauce on top and place the next layer of noodles over. Repeat ricotta and mozzarella layers.
- End with the last layers of noodles on top. Spread rest of sauce over and sprinkle with mozzarella.
- Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until cheese is bubbling.
- Let lasagna cool for 10 minutes before cutting.
