Delicious Traditional Lasagna

There’s nothing better than a traditional homemade lasagna on a cold winter’s day. This is a pretty easy recipe that anyone can make and is also very delicious. This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.

Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained according to package instructions.
  • 2 cups Ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups meat sauce (recipe below)
  • 2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten

Meat Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3/4 cup red wine
  • 3 cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

QUICK TIP: If you do not have time to make the sauce, you can simply use store-bought sauce and mix in with ground beef.

Directions:

  1. To make the sauce, heat oil in a large skillet and add ground beef. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add onion, garlic, basil, and oregano and continue cooking until meat is browned.
  3. Add bay leaf, tomatoes, red wine, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 45 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 375F/190C.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, beaten egg, parsley, and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Take a 9″x13″ baking dish and spread out 1/2 cup of sauce. Place three lasagna noodles on top.
  8. Spread 1/2 of the ricotta mixture on the lasagna and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  9. Spread 3/4 cup meat sauce on top and place the next layer of noodles over. Repeat ricotta and mozzarella layers.
  10. End with the last layers of noodles on top. Spread rest of sauce over and sprinkle with mozzarella.
  11. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until cheese is bubbling.
  12. Let lasagna cool for 10 minutes before cutting.
